Pope Pius XII socks

This pair of white stockings belonged to Pope Pius XII. They were sent to St. Louis by Sister Margaret in Rome. Her religious order is unknown. The photograph on the right shows Pope Pius XII when he visited St. Louis in 1936 as then-Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli. He became pope in 1939. In the photo, he is standing with Archbishop John Glennon and Reverend Mother Mary Reid at the Academy of the Sacred Heart.
